HDTV Tuner Cards

Since the first time I saw the pristine, sharp quality of HDTV, I’ve become enamored with the technology. Imagine better-than-DVD-quality picture! You’ve got to see it to believe it. The best part is the same exact same television programming you see on a regular TV is, likewise, freely available in HDTV format at the exact same time. Why watch Grey’s Anatomy on regular low-resolution TV when you can watch it in high quality picture! Chances are, free HDTV frequencies are just bouncing about you as you read. The problem is … the equipment to receive these signals is not exactly free.

Using the KWorld ATSC-110 with MediaPortal

For those of you who own the KWorld ATSC-110 HDTV Tuner, you know that the accompanying PVR/DVR/HTPC software sucks. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for Beyond TV. In fact, I hear that it is most often reviewed as the best HDTV recording software around. It’s just that those reviews apply for the full versions. KWorld only bundles the SE subscribers’ edition, which, in the end, is “crippleware.” Basically, pretty much all you can do with this software is very limited viewing and recording, that is, unless you decide to fall for one of the aggressive subscribe-or-upgrade-me popup windows.
